What is Methyl Propanoate?
Methyl propanoate, also known as methyl propionate, is an organic compound with the molecular formula CH3CH2CO2CH3. It is a colorless liquid with a fruity and rum like aroma. Has flammability. Natural products exist in honey and citrus. Melting point -87.5 ℃, boiling point 79.9 ℃, relative density 0.9150, refractive index 1.3775. Slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Used as a solvent for nitric acid fibers and an intermediate in organic synthesis. Obtained by esterification of propionic acid and methanol.
