Lithium carbonate is a white crystalline powder or particle with a density of 2.11 g/cm ³ and a melting point of 720 ℃. It is slightly soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol.
Lithium carbonate aqueous solution is alkaline and easily reacts with acids to form lithium salts and release CO ₂. Has good thermal stability, but decomposes into lithium oxide (Li ₂ O) and carbon dioxide at high temperatures. These properties require strict control of environmental conditions, especially humidity and temperature, in industrial applications.
Lithium carbonate is mainly produced through purification of lithium ore or salt lake brine in industry. The ore method requires high-temperature calcination, acid leaching, and other steps to convert into soluble lithium salts, which then react with sodium carbonate to precipitate; Salt lake brine is obtained by evaporation concentration, impurity removal, and precipitation with sodium carbonate.
High purity lithium carbonate needs further purification, with impurity content below ppm level, to meet the synthesis requirements of lithium battery cathode materials.
As a fundamental lithium compound, Lithium carbonate is a key precursor for the preparation of other lithium salts. In the field of lithium batteries, it synthesizes positive electrode materials through high-temperature solid-state reactions; In the glass ceramic industry, the thermal stability and lithium ion activity of Lithium carbonate can lower the melting point and improve the thermal expansion performance;
